The failure can cause the engine to cut out intermittently, normally after leaving the vehicle for a few minutes the engine will re-start, but this is not always the case.
It is very common that the engine ECU will fail to powerup the fuel pump and achieve communications to diagnostic equipment.

PLUG & PRAY
Usually its not a plug and plug job.The ECUS need to be coded: Immobiliser secret key and the injectors codes and you must remove the engine cover to get them.
AVOID SUPRISES
There are more then 50 different OEM softwares available for Td5 ECUS.
Your car should have the correct one to work 100% ok.
You can BUY an used ecu with the same part number but the software almost sure will be different.

Find the issue and ECU/Engine Control unit removal
Check for ecu dtc errors with scanner and if necessary check wiring
The ecu location differers on Discovery and Defender: near the Battery and inside fuse compartment (LHD-passenger seat). Its a simple process no special tool or skills necessary. (Contact us if you need help)

BENCH TEST & QUOTATION
As soon as we receive the ECU, we go ahead with bench testing.
In case of no repair (burned boards), we have always rebuild ECU's on STOCK ready to ship.

Our engineers run control units in our self developed td5 engine simulators and check whether the ecu functionality conforms to the standard.
After repair we simulate extreme heat and vibration and seal the unit after successful test.
Finally we do a road test in our state of art 4wd Bench Dyno.

The foundation of Td5ECU is easy to explain:
In 1999 CarPowerChips started to chiptuning the first Land Rover Defender td5.
The following years it was involved in many Land Rover td5 projects: reverse engineering the ECU, competition, custom projects like convert Discovery's td5 to BMW 35D engine (all peripheral modules working: ABS, Gauges, Aircon, Air Suspension), customs intercoolers, air centre diff lockers for Discovery II, VNT turbos controlled by stock Discovery turbo solenoid (no addon boxes), dual mapping, convert MSB ECUS into Flashable, OBD flash read protection systems, custom td5 injectors and so on... including supplying files for td5Inside.
